First Responder

The Emergency Medical Responder training equips you with the skills to assess, intervene, and provide continuous care to patients while at work, responding to calls, or during transport to a healthcare facility.

This comprehensive course covers advanced first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills, which are essential to carry out appropriate patient assessments, interventions, and ongoing care in the workplace or emergency scene.

EMR is a standalone course, but a bridging course also provides learners with a way to move from Canadian Red Cross First Responder to Emergency Medical Responder, recognizing their existing skills and knowledge in a condensed time frame.

First Responder to Emergency Medical Responder Bridging pre-course requirements include proof of current Red Cross First Responder certification.

The Stop the Bleed Coalition’s STOP THE BLEED® Training Course was developed to provide clinical training combined with valuable information about available STOP THE BLEED® resources for you and your community.

Students will learn:

  • What is STOP THE BLEED®?

  • Why is this important?

  • How to recognize life-threatening bleeding

  • How to stop life-threatening bleeding

  • Getting STOP THE BLEED® ready

  • STOP THE BLEED® resources

Learning how to STOP THE BLEED® is pretty straightforward. Take a STOP THE BLEED® class offered by a licensed STOP THE BLEED® Instructor in your area. Classes are typically about an hour long, combining a lecture period with hands-on training. Once you complete the class, you’ll be eligible for an official U.S. Department of Defence STOP THE BLEED® Certificate. You can find instructors in your area by visiting this page.

Another option is to watch the Essentials of Stop the Bleed video (it’s Free!), which covers the lecture portion of a STOP THE BLEED® class, and to attend a skills-based hands-on training session. Once you complete the skills based session, you’ll be eligible for an official DoD STOP THE BLEED® Certificate. Visit this page to begin the online course.
